             Territorial changes - Germany lost a lot of valuable territory, such as the Rhineland and Alsace-Lorraine, among others. Kaiser Wilhelm II was to be tried as a war criminal, but his abdication meant this never occurred.
             The War Guilt Clause was despised by all of Germany, and helped to fuel the lie that Germany had been 'stabbed in the back' by Communists, Socialists, and Jews (Sax & Kuntz, 26. This helped to fuel rebellion and violence as well as strengthen nationalism. Then the Freikorps led by Captain Hermann Ehrhardt who attempted a coup of the Weimare Republic by marching on Berlin on March 12-13 (Sax & Kuntz, 27). Although their attempt at taking over the government failed their attempt at doing so demonstrated the beginning of the angry and militant intentions of the right wing who in effect had just begun stretching their legs. This attempt only strengthened nationalistic sentiments among the people. The surge of nationalism gave rise to small extreme right winged parties. Most notably the German Worker's Party (Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, DAP), which later became the National Socialist German Worker's Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, NSDAP), the Nazi Party.
             The loss of territory and the war reparations were huge economic impositions on Germany. Territories such as the Rhineland and Alsace-Lorraine contained a lot of German industry, which was taken by the Allies. To cope with the massive war reparations, as well as the lack of money, the German government printed out more reichsmarks, exacerbating post war inflation.
