New Respect In The Military

             Marine Corps standards are higher than any other service in our country, and I believe this is true, to the bottom of my heart. Respect is undermined all the time in the civilian world, like when President Clinton lied under oath, but Marines could never get away with that. Marines pride themselves on their uniqueness to the other services. One of these distinct differences is the respect given to senior marines and officers. Respect is very important for several reasons. The instant obedience to orders is a must. Learning to be professional not only assists in military operations, but is also a trait that can be taken to the civilian life. Whether you are military or a civilian, respect is a key trait that will make you or break you.
             There are several different aspects of respect in the world today. One is the respect for someone because of a billet or appointment over you. You must respect this person because they are your senior. Their actions determine the capabilities of a unit and their overall accomplishment of an operation. A senior marine is not just any person given a rank and job. Senior marines go through vigorous training to become the person they are. Through classes, training, and experiences they gain the knowledge on how to handle situations and the trouble shooting skills to pick the best solution possible. Although enlisted marines are often found to make major decisions, no matter what the overall call is, it is always passed through an officer. This is because their training and experiences have proved them to be able to make the judgment call with accuracy.
             The Marine Corps may seem unnecessarily strict or rough on its marines but there is a reason for this. Marines must respect their superiors. It is as simple as that.
