If we were to go to war or a conflict were to break out, it would significantly affect their performance as well as the world's perception about the United States. No matter how one feels, there must be respect given to every single officer all the way up the chain of command.
An example of an officer making these decisions would be when an enemy fighting hole has posed a severe danger and must be overtaken. The platoon commander must make the decision on how to go about gaining control of that firing hole and find a way to do it with the least casualties. If a marine were to disrespect an officer, than others might take his lead and begin to disrespect the officers too. This could than result in the enemy not properly being taken control of because of lack of communication.
Communication is very important in any scenario. Directions and decisions have to come from a single individual. If more than one person decides to make a command decision, than lives could be placed at risk. The importance of communication reflects on respect because if one marine doesn't respect his superior, than he may be asked to pass
