he Beatles had a unique quality that endeared people to them and enabled them to withstand the test of time in the music world, a feat which very few artists have managed to accomplish. The Legacy of the Beatles class really helped me understand this mass appeal the Beatles had that extended far beyond their music. Some of the most meaningful information for me was that of the band's history and the events taking place at that time that came together fortuitously in order to help propel the Beatles to great fame. So much of the history is either lost or forgotten, but it is important to recognize that had any of the four been born just a few years earlier, the Beatles would not even have existed, considering England didn't abandon its compulsory National Service program until 1960. Thankfully, instead of being shuffled off to various military bases for two years, the four were able to find each other and devote several years to playing music together, practicing in front of small adoring audiences in Liverpool.
