Escaping the noise of the increasing populated world is one of the main motivations for outdoor recreationists. As stated in the Wilderness Act of 1964, "Soundscapes are essential components of wilderness character, enabling visitors to experience solitude and the earth and its community of life...untrammeled by man" (Dodd. 2013)
             The preservation of the Grand Canyon started after Benjamin Harrison's election as US President. As a senator, Harrison failed three separate times, in 1882, 1883 and 1886, to pass a bill to establish the Grand Canyon as a national park. Once elected as President, he established the Grand Canyon Forest Reserve in 1893. Later in 1908, Theodore Roosevelt established the Grand Canyon as a National Monument. With many attempts, in 1919 the Grand Canyon National Park Act was finally established by Woodrow Wilson. Once established as a National Park, the National Park Service assumed administration over the park.
