The purpose of this lab was to get used to working with a very valuable tool in the scientific world; the microscope. During which, everyone within the class learned how to operate a microscope.

How the Microscope Works and Caring for the Microscope
1. Read through lab. Become familiar with parts of microscope.
2. Use two hands when carrying microscope. Support the base with one hand and the arm with the other. Place the microscope so the arm id towards you.
3. Locate the two sets of lenses on the microscope, one in the eyepiece, and the other in the objective.
4. Locate the metal disk, which is called the turret. The turret revolves, which makes switching powers possible. When an objective is lined up directly underneath the eyepiece lens, a click can be heard. This click should be heard every time a slide is being looked at.
5. Switch the microscope into low power. Turn on the light source. Now look through the eyepiece. The circular area, which is being seen, is known as the field of view. Also, always remember to turn off the light source when the microscope is not in use.
1. Obtain a prepared microscope slide. Put the slide on the center of the stage and secure it with the clips. Position the slide so it is centered above the hole in the stage.
2. Use the course adjustment knob to focus the microscope. Watch from the side to see the stage move as the knob is turned. Make sure that they do not collide
3. Move the course adjustment knob until the height of the lower power objective is as close as possible, but without touching it. If the touch, there could be damage.
4. Now locate the fine adjustment knob. Use this to focus the slide.
