arty's name might as well be Dean Ray Koontz for Marty's California address, stable family life and strong opinions about American society. Koontz put a lot of his "personal feelings and life experiences into this novel." (Random House) for example, Marty is a successful novelist in Southern California.
This novel focuses on the scientific method of cloning. Cloning is the process in which DNA from a human grows in a laboratory in order to create a replica of another human. (Brouwer) In the Novel Mr. Murder, Alfie is Marty's clone whom was developed in a Washington based lab over thirty years ago. Scientist raised Alfie to become a "killing machine" being able to go days without sleep and requiring very little to survive. Throughout Alfie's lifetime he was successfully able to carry out over one hundred hit jobs in the entire United States.
