e decade. The new craze was dance marathons. Although the dancing at these marathons was often considered vulgar, the masses of the people flocked to dance halls. Society was breaking free of the ties that held them back and made up new rules for America’s favorite past-times.
             In contrast to all of the positive events of the decade, the economy is one thing that was considered a negative aspect of the 1920s. People spending too much money eventually causing the Great Depression in the 1930s.
             Lastly, divorce was the way out of an unhappy marriage to more people in the 1920s than ever before. In earlier decades, divorce had been frowned upon. However, in the 1920s it was not quite the norm, but divorce rates increased at a steadily rising pace. This exemplifies the deterioration of the family unit.
