The Congress of Vienna- they faced the monumental tasks of restoring stability and order in Europe after 25 years of war. It was a brilliant gathering of European leaders.
Clemens Von Metternich- the dominant figure at the congress wanted to restore the status quo (Latin word for " the way things are").
Agricultural Revolution- this was when people learned how to farm and domesticate animals. About 300 years ago there was a 2nd agricultural revolution and this greatly improved the quality and quantity of farm products. This also improved the methods of farming.
Enclosure movement- the process of taking over and fencing off land formerly shared by peasant farmers.
Energy Revolution- this was the 3rd factor that helped trigger the Industrial Revolution was this. From beginning of human history the energy, work was provided mostly by the muscles of humans and animals.
James Watt- 1769 he improved on newcomen's engine. Watt's steam engines would become the vital power source of the early Industrial Revolution.
Factories- place in which workers and machines are brought together to produce large quantities of goods.
Turnpike- privately built road that charges a fee to travelers who use it.
Abraham Darby- he used coal instead of wood for smelting iron that is separating iron from its ore. When he discovered that coal gave off impurities that damaged iron, he found a way to remove the impurities from coal.
Steam powered locomotive- early 1800's pioneers like George Stephenson developed this invention to pull carriages along rails.
Spinning jenny- machine that spins more than one thread at once
Robert Fulton- he used Watt's steam engine to power the Clermont up the Hudson River. (steam boat)
