his is in the beginning of the story, when Jake observes the prostitute Georgette's attraction to a new group of young men who have just entered the bar they had gone to. Feeling useless because of his wound, he realizes that "She had been taken by them...I knew they would all dance with her" (Hemingway 28). And therefore because of this, he realizes he has lost the prostitute to the group of young men. His disappointment then turns to anger, as he forms an opinion on the young men. His statement about how they are "all alike" (Hemingway 28) shows both his disgust with himself and also how that disgust affects his opinion of others.
