Food safety is an issue that has plagued the food service industry since its beginnings. Although distributors as well as consumers have done an excellent job at curbing the issue, still there are issues that are simply "Inescapable". Many problems with food are associated directly with the environment the food is kept in as well how the products were developed or grown. The European Union has several major faults but I believe its greatest fault is that it doesn't have a "backbone". In Europe two major diseases that are running rampant are Hoof and Mouth and Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE). Ideas to curve the issues Europe is facing today are giving the livestock vaccinations or inoculations, eliminating all of the infected or potentially infected animals, changing slaughter habits and setting up organizations such as the European Food authority.
             The Europeans took way to long in creating the EU. It has been need for a long time. I might argue since the beginning of the enlightenment. Europe is such a tight-knit diversity of people that it needs a support to keep everything together. I would also argue that had a Union been developed much sooner that the World Wars might not have ever come to be. I think it was inevitable for a "solid" body be created for the nations of Europe. Not only does the EU offer the possibility for further structure but it would also boost the economy and offer more "security" to everyday life in Europe. I believe the EU to be more necessary than the United Nations. History shows us that 95% of the conflicts began in Europe. I believe the EU should be a mediator. When I mention "backbone" I do not mean to infer that the sovereignty of the already established nations be extinguished. I do believe that there needs to be someone to "break up the fights though" and act as "MOM" for Euro!
