heory X explains that people are lazy and must be coerced to work. Theory Y describes people as willing to work and cooperative. This theory relates to how management perceives their employees. For example, a manager that believes in theory X will assume that his employees want to be told what and how to perform. A manager who believes theory Y is willing to give his employees some freedom in finishing a project (Nahavandi 1999).
