eration collectively in their individual minds because the rules change. He asserts that not only is the culture of an individual guided by the epigenetic rules, but also that certain rules enable an individual to survive in their culture more effectively. Over time, the less effective epigenetic rules are phased out by the natural selection process, and the stronger rules continue to be passed down from generation to generation.
I had some initial problems wrapping my brain around these theories. I re-examined the whole framework of consilience, and re-considered what Wilson was proposing concerning economics. I have realized that to be able to explain how Wilson's assumptions factor into the field of economics, one must first examine economics itself. Economics is the study of the flow of goods, people, and services through our economy and the economies of other countries. The reason that economics is considered a social science is because so much of the predictive nature of economics is subjugated by the human factor. If one factors out the human factor, then economics becomes as predictable as any natural science in existence. Economics functions off of models that are designed to take into account certain variables, such as supply, demand, etc., and predict an equilibrium point of consumption. The variables are definable in and of there selves. The unpredictable nature arises from the existence of human nature in all economic activities.
The measurable units of economics are aggregates of individual inputs measured over time. These inputs are derived from the actions of humans involved in commerce. Based upon this, these aggregates all contain elements of human nature that renders the overall aggregate unreliable due to the variable nature of human action. The human factor cannot be predicted with any degree of certainty, so economists are forced to rely upon folk psychology, that which is based upon his...
