battle began with the Battle of the Boyne. This was in
             between the Protestants led by William III against the Catholics led by James II. The
             victory was Protestant and immediately led to the confiscation of Catholic land by the
             Protestant settlers from England. This was the beginning of the battles in between
             Catholics and Protestants in 1690. Protestants made laws preventing Catholics from
             voting and education. In 1801 the Irish Parliament was dissolved by the Act of Union.
             This bound Ireland to Great Britain. Both Catholics and Non-Episcopal Protestants were
             left out of any political activity. In 1912 a document was signed by 400,000 Protestants,
             called the Ulster Solemn League and Covenant. This was an attempt to stay unionized
             with Great Britain. Then in 1916 the Easter Rising took place in Dublin which fought
             against British rule. The rebels lose the battle and are later executed which leads to the
