sion was occurring during this era, and many people in the United States were living in the state of poverty, where children had to work to live. These people's battles were as harsh as those fighting for equality, for they had to fight to live and the right to have the same services as those who were not fighting to live or to be equal. In the town of Maycomb, Alabama, where the story take this place, Scout had to deal with a war for equality, and a war of survival. Most people believe that the situations in the book or situations like that cannot happen in this day an age. That is a major misconception. It may not be as common as it was back in that day and age, but I happen to know that it still exist. For I live in an area where fierce battles are held every day. The eerie relation between Scout's world and mine is proof enough that the world is not perfect and that we have not really improved as much as we would like to believe in the last fifty years. Life for the innocent and the ones that are oppressed by society still remains the same. With the introduction of the Internet and cellular phones, people that keep to themselves can be
             easily tormented or acquitted of doing things that they have not. It is said that killing a mockingbird is a sin, since it never does anything harmful and it creates beautiful music for people to hear. This saying symbolizes the idea that anything that is innocent or does not do harm to others should not be harmed. However, in today's society, it happens often. Small towns are almost exactly the same in both eras, both have prejudice against a certain group of individuals and each one of them has its own personal war.
