The curriculum is a guide for teacher to help educate children so that at the end of their primary school life they can write the Secondary Entrance Assessment exam. At each level or standard in the primary school, the teacher would have to select from the Official Curriculum the standard for his or her class. This is called the Syllabus for the class. Each subject would have it's own syllabus. From the syllabus the teacher would be able to create his or her programme of work or scheme of work. From the scheme of work would come the individual lesson plans.

It is said that once the needs of society has change, the curriculum has to change also. There are many factors that influence the development of the curriculum. They are: -
1. The Nature Of The Learner. This will influence the teaching/ learning strategies available to the teachers. Since each individual is different, new strategies must be developed so that each child will benefit from the knowledge that is to be shared.
2. The Teacher's Attitude Towards Change. Since some people may not accept change as easily as others they will and may prefer not to assist in the development of a primary school curriculum.
3. The Availability Of Resources. There are new methods being developed to teach certain topics in different subjects and with these methods come resources to complement them. This factor can be either positive or negative. Positive in the sense that students would benefit by understanding the topics better but if the resources were unavailable the lesson would lack motivation for students to want to learn.
