As Carlos takes the football field, every young boy in the stands idolizes him. The
short, wide shouldered young man is going up against the best defense in the state not
knowing what is going to happen this Friday night. As Carlos and the rest of the Permian
Panthers take the field they are bitten by the cold wind of the West Texas Llano. The
crowd in the stands are anxious for the game to get under way when the Panthers and the
neighboring Midland Lee Rebels await the coin toss. To Odessa's advantage they win
the coin toss and elect to kick the ball
While Carlos is sitting on the bench awaiting for his offense to take the field he is
overwhelmed by all the things going on in his life. The first and for most problem is all
the attention he is getting from Div I colleges. Contemplating on whether to stay in his
home state of Texas or to go cross-country to the University of Miami. Either way
Carlos goes he is guaranteed a major role in either offense. Not knowing he didn't make
the required score of 21 on the SAT to be accepted for any school. Six minutes into the
first quarter the Panthers find themselves down seven to zero awaiting to take their first
set of downs. Once in formation the quarterback hands the ball to Carlos Guzman, once
he has the ball he breaks series of tackles and takes the football seventy-two yards to even
up the score. On every possession the Panthers get the ball it seems as if they are
unstoppable Nearing the end of the half the Panthers are enveloping the defense of the
Rebels. The horn sounds as the people in the stadium are moving to take break with the
Panthers ahead twenty-four to seven.
Entering back into the sold out stadium the two teams once again take the field. For
some reason the football gods are with the Permian Panthers this Friday night escaping
nearly every tackle attempted by the defense. The fin...
