e as a series of journeys.
There are a variety of different texts that portray the notion of life being a series of journeys. This notion is mainly shown through the techniques that the composers use to explore the concept of physical journeys. A particular text, which represents the concept of physical journeys is a poem written by Peter Skrzynecki called 'Immigrants at Central Station, 1951'. This poem is set just after World War II when there was mass migration to Australia from Europe. The poem shows the view that Peter Skrzynecki is faced with when he and his family return from the stay in Parks Detention Centre. The image sparked by this poem is that of Central Station, where immigrant families are waiting to start the final part of their journey of immigration to start a new life.
This poem reflects the concept of a physical journey but also the idea that life is a series of journeys. This poem is centred on the idea of immigration to a new country. That idea is a journey in itself, as the immigrants are leaving their home and travelling to a new country where they will start a new life. That inturn, will spark the beginning of numerous or a series of adventures and journeys as they continue their new life in Australia. This poem also shows Central station as being the crossroad of their physical journey of migration. This crossroad therefore represents choices and opportunities, which display the concept of a physical journey.
This poem also displays the mood of mixed emotions, which illustrate an inner journey experience within the physical journey of moving countries. This also represents life as a series of journeys.
'Immigrants at Central Station, 1951' by Peter Skrzynecki, uses a variety of techniques to display not only the concept of physical journeys but also the concept of life being a series of journeys. This is particularly shown through the first three lines of the first stanza. &q...
