towards African-Americans. Even in this modern day there is controversy over whether or not our egalitarian idea of equality has been reached with regards to African-Americans.
             Myrdal noted "sophisticated doctrines of racial inequality were dominant in American universities" (555). Still today, despite the fact that student bodies are finally becoming much more diverse, the New York Times article "Professors at the Color Line" explains how the possibility for minorities to get university professorships is still very remote. One of the most astounding facts about this is that over the last 22 years, the number of African-American full-time faculty has risen only from 4.4 percent to 4.9 percent, even though "universities have long prided themselves on being champions of tolerance and reform" (A27).
             In Mississippi, black landowners recently claimed they were being forced off of their land by the state government, which wishes to build a Nissan plant there, and that they were being paid much less than other white landowners who are involved ("Black Landowners..." A1). Lonzo Archie, one of the African-American landowners, alleges that the white landowners were allowed to "negotiate freely" with the state over price, but that black landowners were immediately threatened with seizure of their land (A20), a perfect instance of continued inequality in the traditionally racially torn deep south.
             Many African Americans still fully believe they are being under appreciated and mistreated in the complex American business industry.
