As a whole Section A tells us about routines, duties, conditions, the weather, food and the diseases in the trenches. Section B contains sources based on official accounts on life in the trenches. People in the government or senior officials wrote these accounts. Basically people who were not experiencing trench life as much as some people were.
             Source B1 is a painting called 'An Advanced Dressing station at the front' and was painted by Henry Tonks in 1918. This source catches the mood that the people were in at the time and it shows wounded soldiers and buildings that have been destroyed. Everyone looks clean, there is no mud and they are dressed fairly well which disagrees with some information that is said in Section A. In source A5 it comments on how the soldiers had to face 'cold, mud and the side effects of sleeping rough'. This source also comments on how mud quickly coated boots, socks, and trousers that were not changed for at least one week. This information disagrees with what has been painted in source B1. The artist, Henry tonks however was sent to the front line as an official war artist so there is a good chance that the government would have told his to hide the overall impact that trench life was having on the soldiers. However my own knowledge supports the reliability of the source. I know that in some parts of France trench like was not as bad as other parts and this painting might have been takes behind the front line of one on the good parts.. My own knowledge and source A5 supports this fact. However I know that there was a good chance that the government might of told him to hide this part of trench life so the people at home wouldn't think it was that bad.
