owledge knows that July 1st 1916 was the first day of the Battle of the Somme in which 25,000 soldiers were killed, 32,000 were wounded or taken prisoner in a single day. This photo would have been taken for a purpose and it shows some of the conditions that were mentioned in Section A. Source A4 comments on the barbed wire that was in and around the trenches and barbed wire can be seen in the picture This source also shows that explosions were going off which is supported in source A1 as it says that the British fired over 170 million artillery shells in the 4 years that war went on for. This source also shows the uniform that the soldiers wore in the trenches and the danger that they were in every day. This picture also agrees with my own knowledge because I know that the trenches were about two meters deep, two meters wide and were dug in a zigzag shape to reduce the blast. However there is no evidence to show that this picture was actually taken on July 1st 1916, so this picture could have been disguised as that day. I also have to ask the que
