Atheists dread the moment of death because all that is waiting for them is a casket and the cold ground. Although religion has its good sides, it cannot be forgotten how dangerous religion can be through destructiveness, abuse of power and the harm it can cause to unknowledgeable people.
In the same way, science cannot only be harmful but useful as well. In the last century, science finds numerous cures for many diseases. If not for antibiotics, the death rate of humans suffering from bacterial infections would still be very high in every age group. Furthermore, through science, companies produce genetically engineered medicines. All over the world, people use gene-spliced drugs and medications to treat Aids, cancer, heart and kidney disease, strokes and the like (Edwards 27). Additionally, science gives knowledge about this world, how it functions, and how this knowledge can be used to make life on earth easier. An example is an advancement in globalism. Science is connected to global communication, making the world smaller and increasing public awareness of international developments. People can watch a war, democratic revolutions, natural catastrophes and the birth of a panda baby in China as it happens (Edwards 23). Moreover, through meteorological science, people can be warned before severe weather, like hurricanes or tornadoes, hits the area where they live. Seismological science provides knowledge of possible future earthquakes and forensic science assists in bringing criminals to justice. Even though science is greatly beneficial to the human race, it has its negative sides being destructive, harming innocent people through power abuse and causing dangerous situations for uninformed people.
