Though these provisions already exist in Canadian Law, the provision builds upon these current laws for the special purpose of fighting terrorism. I believe that this provision adds yet another important aspect to a police officers role in carrying out his/her duties, and the use of personal discretion which now must take into account further legalities regarding what the officer feels is a terrorist activity, or will lead to a terrorist event.
             Additional safeguards as outlined by the Honorable Anne McLellan relating to the Preventative Arrest powers include; judicial supervision of the recognizance process, the requirement for reasonable grounds for belief that terrorist activity will be carried out, the requirement that an arrest without warrant can only be made where it is necessary to prevent the commission of a terrorist activity, and the ability of the person to vary a recognizance#.
