As the great Shakespeare once quipped "Life is but a stage and we are merely players." A metaphorical truth rings evidently in that statement. Our text and workbook confronts the issues of roles and conflict within roles in detail. To elucidate my own experience with roles and inheren...

MARKETING AND PROMOTING A FILM. A film is the source of most of all our comedy and entertainment which all sorts of ideas come from. One film inspires another and so on and so forth. Once a rough draft of a script has been written, the writer has to see a director who will forward the film to a...

HARD CANDY Hard Candy, directed by Jamie Daugherty, was a somewhat impressive performance. After reading the play and then viewing it during a fourth period one act, I was impressed by their performance. I would consider this play a success, taking into consideration a low budget and a "roo...

In this very updated version of the well beloved children's classic " The Wizard of Oz," movie watchers are transported to a world of music, neat special effects, eye-popping costumes, and a fantastic retelling of the tale of the wonderful wizard of Oz. "The Wiz" is one of ...

Acting is a very complex art form where the actor must abandon their own personal feelings to take on the feelings of a character. There are a few ways for an actor to be cast in a production. Sometimes actors attend open calls, where anyone may attend and there is a chance to get called back. At op...

Woyzeck, I thought all in all was quite a dry play, regarding its plot and movement. The only really interesting aspect was that of some of the actors, namely "Captain" played by William Heafer and Karl played by Sean Connealy. William did a wonderful job playing the part of Captain. From the fi...

The production I critiqued is "Fairy Tale Follies" by A. J. Jacobs, done by the high school students of Foothills Academy. Despite the fact that they had a small cast and crew, the production was quite enjoyable. The play itself did not really follow Aristotle's components of drama,...

The 4 criteria I used to judge the movie Me, Myself, & Irene are acting, dialogue, music, and sound. This movie is a hilarious comedy starring Jim Carrey and René Zellwigger. Both of those actors do an excellent job, but some of the best and most comedic acting comes from the wide range of ...

Set against the backdrop of the mid 1990's Los Angeles club scene, Swingers, gives us an engaging and realistic look into the L.A. singles life, and serves as a parable for all of those out there that have looked for love, failed and have had the courage to get up and try again. The story cente...

Interesting, captivating, and just as witty as the original musical Les Misérables, this is an interesting musical with a twist. Why is it with a twist? Although the storyline is exactly the same as the original Les Misérables, there are a couple of changes to this version - the most obvious being...

Having no previous directing experience I was not quite sure what to expect coming into this project. Having a primarily performance background in theatre I was somewhat nervous about having to now be the one giving the direction and instruction rather then taking it. I was, however, able to use m...

The Crucible The Crucible was written by Arthur Miller and, in the Northern production, directed by Deborah Barton-Moore. The play is set in Salem, Massachusetts, 1692, where suspicions of witchcraft were floating around the town air. The play opens with Betty Parris sick in bed, and R...

In Caryll Churchill's collaborative drama "Cloud Nine," there are some very interesting resonances between acts one and two. As readers, we have to pay close attention to the gender and ethnic background's of the actors, and the significance of who they are portraying. Through...

The Canterbury Tales is about an unrelated group of pilgrims traveling together on a pilgrimage. One of the major aspects of the journey is the unique diversity of the characters. There are knights, nuns, monks, lower-class tradesman and single women. They interact together and tell each other thei...

Previously, if asked why I wanted to be an actor, I'd say I didn't know. I just loved to act. Of course, there's the obvious fame and fortune but that's not enough when choosing a career, because if you don't attain that fame and fortune, you have to love it enough to keep doing it. What makes ...

"Santa Santita" The film was great! Good selections of characters. The story line was terrific, you could even say its really happening here in our country, Philippines. The way the director put it together, the sequences, the climax and all that is just sure to capture the eyes of t...

This is my first review and I thought I should describe in brief what the movie is about and then give my opinion on it. A Puerto Rican youth is accused of knifing his father to death, and the trial testimony seems to present an open-and-shut case; the all white male jury can take a serious seco...

Flowers for Algernon Critique Have you ever wanted something so bad you'd sacrifice your life to have it; even if just for a moment? Charlie Gordon, played by Robert Masucci did just that. Charlie has a learning disability but gets a chance to alter his I.Q. substantially through operati...

This play was the resounding voice of the dead. The direction of the play closely followed the original direction of the script. By that, I mean that the unity of the play was contingent on the premise of the original writer. I believe that the director of this play was trying to uphold the message ...

A Time to Kill A Time to Kill which was based on a novel written by Grisham, it was released in 1996 and directed by Joel Schumer. This movie shows a struggling black man in a racially charged court room drama. Carl Lee Hailey, played by Samuel L. Jackson murders the two men who rapes and beats...

The other day, when I found out I was going to right a paper on a play, it crossed my mind that I wanted to see the Rocky Horror Picture show on Broadway in New York City. The Rocky Horror Picture Show was originally a small experimental production in a London theatre. From here, it took off inter...

When you go to the theater you may never see your name in lights but your role as an audience member is just as important as the star of the show. A play never really exists until it is performed in front of an audience. That makes an audience what the art of playwriting is all about, it's th...
